Apr 18, 2020· The weight of the motor is sufficient to tighten the belt, if the geometry is correct & the weight of the motor is sufficient. Take a look at an older Craftsman table saw, the motor works as the belt tensioner & there's no adjustment for the belt. On mine, the motor is simply mounted to the 1/4" base plate & won't move.
I bought a 3 Phase electric motor and a VFD hope to make the grinding test in a . Chat Online; Kmg clone plans BladeForums. Apr 04 2014 · I have scoured google for the specs on a kmg 2x72 but can t seem to find much info at all. I plan to build a clone of the kmg and need to know the specs.
Apr 02, 2017· Id love to make a kmg clone with a 3 phase motor, vfd etc but there is no way i can afford it atm so I'd like to make something similar to this. I'm planning on just using a single phase 3hp 4 pole motor and run it direct drive like in the above picture,Or maybe a 2 pole would be better as 3hp should have enough torque
Nov 29, 2009· I changed out the motor on my Rockwell vertical mill before getting the VFD but wish I had left the 3-phase motor in place and gotten the VFD earlier. I am a BIG advocate of VFDs. In addition to being well suited to varying the speed of your belt grinder, a VFD gives you the ability to bid on 3-phase machines on auction that other pass up or ...
If I had $500 to spend on a grinder, I'd definitely build a KMG clone again though. If you don't kind taking some time scrounging for expensive bits like a 3ph motor and maybe a VFD, and if you have some fabrication skills, you'll end up with a MUCH better grinder. I built my KMG clone almost 10 years ago now and it's still running strong.
Jun 22, 2017· Two Pole vs Four Pole Motors; Static Dissipation Brush for Belt Grinder; Horizontal & Vertical Quench Tank; Motors and VFDs for Belt Grinder Applications; OSG 12" Serrated Contact Wheel; KBAC VFD Line (ON/OFF) Switch Installation; KBAC VFD Forward Reverse Switch Installation; Replacing Bearings in Baldor M3558T Motor; CNC 3018 Router and Laser ...
The KMG with PQconnect provides connectivity into your sine wave filter. TCI's sine wave filter converts the PWM wave form to a near sinusoidal wave form by attenuating the carrier frequency, allowing sensitive applications to take advantage of the efficiencies and savings that PWM output power supplies and VFDs can offer.
Nov 14, 2011· The RPM on the motor plate are for 60 hertz operation. If running the VFD at higher frequency, the speed increases. Most charts use 200-300% as the max suggested rate. Using a direct drive with a 6" wheel, on a 1750 RPM 3Ph motor and a VFD will make the KMG …
May 24, 2006· Hi, Lol, it struck me today just how much a KMG clone costs, even with most of the raw steel obtained for free :-) Partly, since almost half the cost is the motor, I decided to run an industrial-size buffing machine off of the same motor on the other side of the stand, which added $60 to the cost...
(you must also run a ground wire from each motor to the ground lug on the inside of the VFD chassis, this is NOT pictured in the diagram) Since I already had the VFD hooked to a single motor (before I wired two motors to a single VFD), I labeled each of the wires as they connected to the motor, and ensured I did the same colored wires to the ...
Jun 29, 2020· Option B. Source a 184Tc Motor and install it with the adapter and extend the shaft to modify it to work with the Variable speed pulley. Option c (what i am leaning toward). Install a 3-5HP 3 phase motor, Remove all the variable speed drive parts and install a fixed pulley ratio and control the speed with the VFD.
Jan 03, 2016· Hi Guys, I'm in the process of making a KMG clone and recently picked up a motor to use. I got a good deal on a 2hp 3ph motor with 3400 rpm. I am now looking to get a VFD. What should I look for? Is there a manufacturer to stay away from? I'm thinking 115 volts in to 230 volts out. I …
Feb 12, 2015· I scored a great condition baldor 3hp compressor motor for 50$ to power it. I'm going to either use a VFD or a pulley and v-belt system to control/adjust speeds for given applications. Design wise, I plan to mount the motor near the floor, run a belt up to power a shaft that has opposing ER40 collet chucks on either end.
Feb 20, 2019· IE, my big lathe runs a VFD that is only rated for 3-phase input (IIRC it's a 10hp VFD on a 5hp motor). That's because it's hard to find VFDs rated for 1-phase input in that size. No problem, I just used the menu functions to turn off the phase-loss protection and it works great on 1-phase input.
2 HP Variable speed motor and controller. Used on our KMG grinders. 110V or 220V AC. 56 Frame. 2 HP VFD NEMA-4X /IP-65 washdown and watertight enclosure. 110V or 220V AC. When running on 110V, it will produce 1.5 hp. When running on 220V, it will produce the full 2 hp. Includes: Motor, VFD, on/off switch module, VFD bracket, cable from motor …
Jul 25, 2021· That's exactly what I did with my mill (BP clone). I kept the H/L drum and used an extra (never-before used) set of contacts on it for low-voltage signaling to the VFD. My VFD (Automation Direct GS20) can use an external input to select from multiple motor configurations, so the drum switch changes the motor wiring between 4- and 2- pole, and ...
Feb 15, 2009· Cory with Custom Eyes Machining has quoted me a KMG grinder clone for $530.00 CAD ea. I think this is a pretty good price for the chassis, base plate, tooling arm, platen, and work rest. I still have to supply the motor, wheels, and assemble the thing, but all things considered - not too bad.
Nov 29, 2008· I made my KMG clone myself but I am sure if you were to purchase one new it would be even nicer than the one I am satisfied with. ... Also I was not pleased with the fact that they switched to 3 phase motors and VFD's, which I didn't find out until I got the machine and opened the box. Also the VFD is mounted right in the way of fully using the ...
Runs on 110V or 220V AC — comes finished and pre-wired, nearly ready to plug in and GRIND! (you will need to connect the pre-wired motor cord to the VFD) We took everything we've learned from 20 years of making the industry-leading Knife-maker's belt grinder, and put it into the KMG-TX Tilting Extreme! Everything you love about classic ...
Feb 19, 2021· The VFD is wired for 110V so the motor produces 3/4hp at 3600rpm which is ample for knife grinding but it can also be rewired for 220V if you wish for the motor to produce 1hp (original instructions for the VFD enclosed). ; It has a steel foot plate for mounting it …
Aug 07, 2018· I purchased a Summit brand (Bridgeport clone) knee mill. Now comes the joys of getting it up and running. Ive bought and have mounted a single phase 220v to 3phase 220v VFD. Now the issue is how to wire the two speed motor to allow the vfd to control it. Attached pictures show the motor data...
Nov 28, 2017· So I ordered the single speed 2x72 from Pheer. I just kept thinking about it and the 3700 rpm and no wheel kept gnawing at me. Called Jose today and asked if I could add a VFD later and he said I would have to buy a new motor. Said ok, can I upgraydd. He said sure so I blew another 500 bucks for a 8in wheel/arm, .5 more HP and a VFD.
Nov 17, 2014· You can buy the 1/2" aluminum to build a KMG clone with most all of it cut to length for little over $100 shipped..... maybe less than $150 including a flat platen assembly and 1-1/2" bar for arm. I've got less than $500 total cost in my grinder, and that's including 2hp 3 ph motor and VFD - not NEMA 4X, but used pretty heavy filtering over air ...
May 24, 2011· Ive read many different threads from different forums but that only confused me more. I bought a KMG a month ago and am ready to by a motor and VFD. Ive been to the local rebuilder once and goofed on pulley size and forgot to mention I prefer a …
Aug 11, 2015· With the KMG, for them to re-rate the drive from 2 HP to 1.5 HP at the lower voltage is not bad. Nothing wrong with 1.5 HP! But you're still paying for a 2 HP motor and drive. Terry's grinders will need something like Iliya bought, VFD and motor, to make it variable. Pheer is making some reasonable machines using the same KBAC VFDs as Beaumont.
Aug 26, 2011· With the advent of Variable Frequency Drive, industry largely moved towards AC motors to save costs on applications previously dominated by DC motors. There is a hybrid design called a universal motor which is a combination of a DC and and AC motor. These are frequently in power tools and bench mixers.
Feb 10, 2019· Thanks Daniel, My first grinder was a pure KMG clone, I copied KMG design VERY close and was adamant the 3 pulley setup gave me all the speed changes I needed. I did have my motor mounted on a hinge plate to make pulley changes even easier. edit to add: I now have converted to direct drive and VFD - no comparison, MUCH better!!!
Apr 10, 2021· BoltDAS TOOBINATOR & motor to a bench (not included), install a 2x72" grinding belt (not included) & you're ready to grind! We also have available a sturdy steel base plate if you prefer not to mount this permanently to a bench.
