Figure 8.1 shows the construction of three phase induction motor. A 3 phase induction motor has two main parts (i) stator and (ii) rotor. The rotor is separated from the stator by a small air-gap which ranges from 0.4 mm to 4 mm, depending on the power of the motor. 1. Stator : It consists of a steel frame which encloses a hollow, cylindrical ...

The classification of motors can be done based on the type of supply like AC motors & DC motors. Under these AC & DC motors, there are different kinds of motors comes as induction motor, reluctance motor, DC shunt, PMDC, stepper, synchronous, etc. This article discusses an overview of different types of induction motor and their working.

A Shaded Pole motor is an AC single phase induction motor. The auxiliary winding, which is composed of a copper ring, is called a shading coil. The current in this coil delay the phase of magnetic flux in that part of the pole in order to provide a rotating magnetic field. The direction of rotation is from the unshaded side to the shaded ring.
Feb 24, 2012· An electrical motor is an electromechanical device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. In the case of three-phase AC (Alternating Current) operation, the most widely used motor is a 3 phase induction motor, as this type of motor does not require an additional starting device. These types of motors are known as self-starting induction motors.

3D Animation AC Motor ... Operating an AC Three-Phase Induction Motor This Demonstration illustrates the operation of an induction motor. You can create a voltage imbalance or a phase shift in the three-phase source. This will result in a change in speed of the rotor that represents a change in developed torque.

Electromagnetic induction has many applications. For example, in a credit cards (the magnetic strips on the back of the card) or in order to generate voltage in motors. The last one is very important because a generator is a "reverse" motor. Figure 2 shows a relation
Jun 28, 2021· Induction motors in practice What controls the speed of an AC motor? Photo: A variable-frequency motor. Photo by Warren Gretz courtesy of NREL. In synchronous AC motors, the rotor turns at exactly the same speed as the rotating magnetic field; in an induction motor, the rotor always turns at a lower speed than the field, making it an example of what's called an asynchronous AC motor.
Feb 24, 2012· What is Linear Induction Motor. A Linear Induction Motor (or LIM) is a special type of induction motor used to achieve rectilinear motion rather than rotational motion as in the case of conventional motors. Linear induction motors are quite an engineering marvel, to convert a general motor for a special purpose with more or less similar working principle, thus enhancing its versatility of ...
More common is the induction motor, where electric current is induced in the rotating coils rather than supplied to them directly. One of the drawbacks of this kind of AC motor is the high current which must flow through the rotating contacts. Sparking and heating at those contacts can waste energy and shorten the lifetime of the motor.
When the motor reaches about 75% of synchronous speed, the centrifugal switch opens the circuit of the starting winding. The motor then operates as a single-phase induction motor and continues to accelerate till it reaches the normal speed. The normal speed of the motor is below the synchronous speed and depends upon the load on the motor.

The motor which works on the principle of electromagnetic induction is known as the induction motor. Electromagnetic induction is the phenomenon in which the electromotive force induces across the electrical conductor when it is placed in a rotating magnetic field. The stator and rotor are two essential parts of the motor.
