The aim of this work is to produce α-alumina particles from aluminum (Al) dross via leaching-precipitation-calcination processes. In the leaching test, the effects of parameters such as the temperature, NaOH concentration, and time were investigated based on the Taguchi approach. In addition, the effect of the particle size on the Al extraction rate was determined.

described process - similar to Bayer's method - for recovery of Al(OH) 3 from black aluminium dross and they proposed a non-waste technology of dross processing. After leaching in 10% NaOH solution at ambient temperature for 2 hours and precipitation by CO 2 the obtained Al(OH) 3 was
25-03-2018· hydroxide can be recovered from an alkaline leaching solution of black dross via crystallization or precipitation, which is considered economical and environmentally friendly [5,13]. Several processes have been reported on the recovery of alumina from black dross by alkaline leaching followed by the precipitation of aluminum hydroxide [14–16].
Thereby, the desalted dross was used to detect the optimum alkaline (NaOH) calcination parameters and leaching conditions, as well as the dissolution kinetics of alumina and silica. The leaching residues were used to produce Ettringite mineral with calcium-based compounds (including CaO and CaSO 4 ) to avoid the problems of solid waste disposal from the leaching process.
Aluminium dross containing 72% Al2O3 and 14.0% SiO2 was fused with NaOH for a period of up to 60 minutes in the temperature range of 500 – 750°C in a stainless steel crucible.
11-07-2014· Black Dross Leached Residue Chemical and Mineralogical Characteristics. The chemical composition of the leached residue, at the optimum leaching conditions is given in Table 1.Its main mineralogical phases, detected by X-ray diffraction analysis, are presented in Fig. 1, together with the corresponding analysis of the initial aluminium black dross (ABD).
20-07-2018· Water Leaching Procedure. The water leaching process has been described elsewhere.[] 20 g of aluminum dross was treated with deionized water at a solid to liquid mass ratio of 1:20 at 373 K (100 °C), where AlN in the dross was being hydrolyzed. The formed ammonia was captured by CO 2 gas to form NH 4 HCO 3.Meanwhile, the soluble chlorides, i.e., NaCl, KCl were extracted by forming …

A large amount of currently useless – basically oxide – residue is produced by the treatment of dross obtained from the melting of alloyed aluminium scrap. Its negligible residual metallic content does not make it feasible for any further metallurgical processing. On the other hand, it may contain chloride salts, whose removal may not only serve the purpose of recycling but it is required ...
During the sulfuric acid leaching of the dross, all the alu-minium present in the dross was converted to water-soluble aluminium sulfate, as shown in the following reaction. 2.3. Leaching of AD by NaOH 20 g of aluminium slag was dissolved in 50 ml 2 N NaOH (exothermic reaction accompanied by …

This black dross contained the oxides of Al, Ca, Fe, Mg, Si, and Ti together with some salts like KCl and NaCl. The salts present in black dross were dissolved in water at the following conditions pulp density, 100 gL ...
recover some components from black dross. In the hydrometallurgical process, alumina and other oxides are dissolved from black dross by employing either acid or alkaline solutions. Alkaline leaching offers selective leaching of alumina over other oxides from black dross but the leaching percentage of alumina is very low2,5).
The method comprises of grinding aluminium dross to obtain particles having average particle size in the range of 80-100 micron, leaching aluminium dross with an acid to obtain a leach liquor having precipitated silica, separating the silica from the leach liquor to obtain a liquid phase, treating the liquid phase with an aqueous ammonia at acidic pH to facilitate precipitation of iron ...
01-03-2020· In order to recover pure alumina and synthesize magnesium spinel from black dross, a hydrometallurgical process was developed.
