The chemical composition of specular hematite from Tilkerode, Harz, Germany: implications for the genesis of hydrothermal hematite and comparison with the Quadrilátero Ferrífero of Minas Gerais, Brazil | SpringerLink Home Mineralium Deposita Article Article Published: 12 March 2013
Metallic hematite, also called specular hematite, has a shiny luster and may exhibit a micaceous habit, which means that it is easy to break small flakes off a sample. The flakes are quite hard, but are easily separated from the sample, making it difficult to recognize the mineral's hardness.
The specular hematite ore sample used in this work was taken from the magnetic separation feedings in JISCO Company (China) and the iron grade was 26.65%. The chemical composition, mineral composition and XRD spectrum of this ore sample are shown in Table 1, Table 2 and Fig. 1, respectively.

The reason Kidney Ore Hematite is named so should be rather obvious. This variety of Hematite has a kidney-like shape and shares the organ's blood-red color. …
Hematite (also spelled Haematite) is a hard, brittle stone which may break if dropped or hit against other hard surfaces. Hematite derives its name from the Greek word for "Blood", and inclusions of Hematite within other stones often cause them to take on a reddish shade. it is best known in its deep-grey metallic form which is a Specular ...

Description. A purified, naturally occurring mineral called specular hematite (Fe2O3). It a blocky, heavy iron-based crystal and the most stable form of ferric oxide in a fully crystalline state. The product will not rust or oxidize as its crystalline composition makes it a stable form of ferric oxide (Fe2O3). No rust means it will not stain or ...
Hematite is rather variable in its appearance - it can be in reddish brown, ocherous masses, dark silvery-grey scaled masses, silvery-grey to black crystals, and dark-grey masses, to name a few. What they all have in common is a rust-red streak. Black crystals may be confused with ilmenite.
5.9 x 4.5 x 2.2 cm. Hematite "kidney ore" and specular hematite combination specimens from the old iron mines at Cleator Moor are rare. Bubbly, botryoidal, lustrous, pretty rust-red kidney ore is strikingly complimented by scintillating, jet-black specular hematite crystals. Classic, old-time, very uncommon and showy combo material from the Howard Belsky …
Hematite physically occurs in many forms: specular ore (steel gray color, shiny crystals); micaceous hematite (gray, scaly flakes), Red ocher (soft, fine-grain, red powder); kidney ore (massive, gray botryoidal form), and pencil ore (gray, fibrous crystals). Because hematite has a high Iron content (70%), it is primarily used for smelting iron.
The BHQ ore was assayed as 38.9wt% Fe, 42.5wt% SiO2, and 1.0wt% Al2O3. In this ore, hematite and quartz are present as the major mineral phases where goethite, martite, and magnetite are present …

The mineral occurs in various habits: steel-gray crystals and coarse-grained varieties with a brilliant metallic luster are known as specular hematite; thin, scaly forms make up micaceous hematite; and crystals in petal-like arrangements are called iron roses. It also occurs as short, black, rhombohedral crystals and may have an iridescent tarnish.

Hematite is an iron oxide mineral with the chemical formula Fe2O3. It has a metallic luster and a black-to-steel-gray color. It is the most valuable ore of iron and one of the most abundant minerals on Earth. The earliest known use of Hematite dates back to the Neolithic period, around 8,000 BC.
DESCRIPTION: Lustrous botryoidal or stalactitic masses, frequently called "kidney iron ore," and individual crystals of the hematite variety, commonly called specular hematite or specularite, are used as …
