Project details: African Minerals Ltd. was established in Sierra Leone in 1996. Formerly known as the Sierra Leone Diamond Company, it changed its focus from diamonds to iron ore after the discovery in 2005 of the Tonkolili deposit.
African Minerals' $1.2 billion refurbishment of the former Marampa mining railway and port in Sierra Leone was completed at light-speed, which indicates the pressure miners are under to get their ore to market.
