Trace element geochemistry of magnetite and pyrite and ...

The Thanewasna copper belt in Bastar Craton of central India is well-known for Cu ± Au mineralization. In this study, we use major and trace element chemistry of magnetite, hematite, and pyrite, as well as the sulfur isotope composition of chalcopyrite, pyrite and barite from the deposit to characterize the mineralization and to constrain its petrogenesis.

Re–Os dating of pyrite and mineral chemistry of magnetite ...

07-07-2020· Pyrite associated with magnetite from hydrothermal massive ores has a Re–Os isochron age of 320.3 ± 9.1 Ma, which is consistent with the Carboniferous age of volcanic rocks. However, the pyroxene diorite age (252.1 ± 3.7 Ma) is obviously younger than the mineralization age, implying no temporal relationship between mineralization and intrusion.

Trace element concentrations in magnetite and pyrite demonstrate that the ore-forming fluid in Hetaoping is of magmatic origin. Furthermore, compared to porphyry, IOCG, Kinuna and BIF type magnetite, the magnetite from Hetaoping has relatively low Ti, V and Ni concentrations but high Al, Mn and Ca concentrations, implying a typical skarn genesis.

Gold mineralization in the Geita Hill deposit is associated with pyrite formed along microfracture networks and sulfidation fronts together with K-feldspar and biotite. The sulfidation fronts are best developed in magnetite-bearing ironstone. The gold is present mainly as electrum and gold tellurides along grain boundaries, and as inclusions in pyrite, quartz, biotite and K-feldspar.
