I'm tired of replacing snapped belts and pulleys with a sheared off key tooth. That happened far too often with the old setup. I've converted it from that weird, unique, Chinese pitch belt, to a standard one, with aluminum pulleys. So that I can replace the belts far more cheaply, and the pulleys won't sheer key teeth. Aug 31, 2013· I was at the only specialised store in my area and held in my hands the T5 and HTD 5M pulleys and belts. The T5 have a huge tooth clearance. I estimate the backlash to maybe 0.5mm. The HTD are much better fitted but there is still a visible clearance/ movement when pulled by hand. The pulleys are made by BEA, the HTD belt is Optibelt and the T5 belt I do not remember.

To align the pulley, I chucked the bearing spacer, put slow CA adhesive on the pulley. Then used the tailstock of the mill to press the two together and provide alignment. Once it set, I drilled and tapped the four screw holes that secure the pulley. See the updated Z axis below.
After having used my Mini Mill for a few years I managed to overload it while using a fly cutter and suffered the common occurance of the broken plastic intermediate gear.
